Devrimci-aydın hareketler ve yaşanmakta olan bu gelişmelerin yanı sıra ,aşk ve ihtirası da içinde barındıran destanlaşmış 396 sayfadan oluşan bir romandır.

An epic novel of Jeju Island, a large island that lies to the south of the Korean peninsula. The novel deals with the anti-Japanese struggle of the Jamnyeo, the women of Jeju Island who earn their living by diving into the sea to collect seaweed, shells and other seafood. In 1932, the Jamnyeo rose up against the Japanese colonists and this struggle grew into the greatest popular anticolonial uprising at that time. Comparable to the February 28th Uprising of Taiwan, this incident served as the precursor to the April 3rd Jeju Uprising in 1948, which is one of the most
tragic moments in contemporary Korean history. Hyun describes the natural beauty of the island, the love affairs and conflicted lives of the Jamnyeo, their struggles against the foreign exploiters, and ideological debates among the revolutionary intelligentsia.
