Üvey annesiyle yaşayan kız, parıl parıl parlayan benekli altın külçesi havada gökte süzülürken tarlada patates topluyordu. Üvey annesi bunu fark etti ve kızın önüne geçip kendi eteğini genişçe açarak altının düşmesini bekledi. Altın düşmedi, gözden kayboldu. Bu arada, kız altına hiç ilgi göstermedi, kendini patates toplamaya verdi.
Kızın önüne benekli bir kaplumbağa geldi. Kız kaplumbağayı altı, elbisesine sardı. Üvey annesi kıza öyle değersiz şeylerle uğraşmaması konusunda biraz akıl verdi. The Spotted Turtle Which Lays Golden Eggs
A girl living with her mother-in-law was picking potatoes in the field when a nugget of shinning gold was spotted floating up in the air. Her mother-in-law followed it and waited for the gold to drop, with her skirt wide spread in front of her. The gold did not fall and disappeared. In the meanwhile, the girl did not show any interest in the gold, and applied herself to picking potatoes.
In front of her crawled a spotted turtle, which she picked and wrapped with her clothes. Her mother-in-law gave her a piece of her mind that she shouldn't pay attention to such a trifle. After work, she brought the turtle with her and put it in her chest. Next morning when she looked into the chest, she found several golden eggs, the size of peas, with the turtle. She told her mother-in-law about the golden eggs that the turtle laid, who coveted the turtle, took it away, and put it in her chest. Next morning when she put her hand in the chest to take the golden eggs out, there was neither the turtle nor the golden eggs, only a snake which bit off her hand.
