Suncheon Körfezi’nin 8000 yillik tarihi jeologlara göre; dünyadaki son buzul çagindan sonra, denizlerdeki su yüksekliginde yaklasik 160m kadar artis gözlendi. Simdilerde bati denizi olarak adlandirilan Kore’nin batisindaki alan, su seviyesindeki artis ile karadan denize dönüstü. Böylece Kore yarimadasi olustu. Tahmin ediliyor ki hafif tuzlu suyunun, toprak ve kum karisiminin, nehirlerin ve sigliklarin olusmasi su seviyesinin yükselmesi ve uzun yillar boyunca gelgitlerin tasidiklarinin sonucudur.
