Sumun Sahili, Jangheung-eup'un dogusundan 16 km ve 18 km uzaktaki yerel yol üzerindedir. Sahil çevresindeki deniz suyu diger bölgelerdekinden daha sicaktir. Ayrica sahil çok ilimandir. Özellikle genis bir alan beyaz kumla kaplidir ve Bosung Koyu'nun sakin dalgalari harikülade bir manzara sunmaktadir. Sumun Sahili sadece bundan ibaret degildir. Karsisinda, neredeyse sahilin bitisiginde yüzen Deungnyang Adasi vardir. Sahilin arkasinda Illim Dagi'ndan akan temiz sular mükemmel bir fayda saglar.
Sahilin ününü, 90 yil önce halka açilmasiyla, Japon sömürge döneminde kazandigi söylenir. Bir grup Japonyali görevli ve cüzzamli hasta, cüzzamli topluluk alanina getirilmek için Sorok Adasi, Goheung-eup'ta yolcu uçagi için bekliyordu. Hastalar asiri nemden ve Kore'nin yaz sicagindan bunalip denize girdi ve su anki Sumun Sahili'nde banyo yapti. Memurlar kendini yenilenmis gibi hissetti ve hastalar mucizevi bir sekilde tamamen iyilesti.
Jangheung-eup'tan Sumun Sahili'ne giden yolun her iki tarafinda siralanmis olan palmiye agaçlari oldukça egzotik bir görünüm sunar.
Sahil, temiz sulari ile ünlü olan Deungnyang Koyu'nun açik denizi ve arkasindaki ananas agaçlarindan olusan ormani ile cografi özellikleri bakimindan turistler için mükemmel bir avantaj saglar. Özellikle taze istridye (deniz taragi, midye de olabilir) ülkenin en ünlü yöresel ürünlerinden biridir. Bununla birlikte bölgenin nefis taze canli baligi, yumusakçalari ve kabuklu deniz ürünleri de ünlüdür.

Sumun Beach
Sumun Beach (Sumun-ri, Anyang-myeon, Jangheung-gun) is located on the local route 18 and 16km far east from Jangheung-eup. The sea water around the beach is warmer than other areas. Also, the elevation of the shore is very mild. Especially, wide-spread white sand and calm waves of Bosung bay are an extraordinary scenic view. Yet, that is not all about Sumun Beach. There is Deungnyang Island floating up in front, very near the end of the shore. On the back of the beach, fresh water provides a great convenience which streams down from the Mt. Illim.
It is said that the beach earned its fame and open to public 90 years ago, during Japanese colonial period. A group of Japanese officers and leprous patients who were on the move to the leprous colony facility in Sorok island in Goheung-eup were waiting for the liner. Due to excessive heat of the humid and hot summer of Korea, they went into the sea and took a bath where it is now Sumun Beach. Miraculously, the officers felt replenished and the patients completely recovered from their disease.
On the way to Sumun Beach from Jangheung-eup, palm trees are lined up along the both sides of the road suggesting quite exotic look of a southern city.
The geographically beautiful feature of the beach is a great advantage for tourists, facing Deungnyang bay's wide front sea--well known for the clean water-and having a pine tree forest in the back. Especially, raw clam is one of the most famous regional specialties in the country, along with excellent tasting raw live fish, pen shell, and pi shell.
