Koreliler için bir kadın okulu Joseon Hanedanlığı zamanında bir ihtiyaç haline gelmişti. Kral Go- Jong tarafından kurulumu için ilk adımlar atıldı. Japonların boyunduruğu altında bu okula ilk kez Kore'den bir okul müdürü atandı. Bu önemli bir gelişmeydi. Okulu kurmak için gereken fon Kraliyet ailesinin kadınlarının belirli bölgelerden fedakarlık etmesi ve maddi anlamda yardımcı olması sonucu tam bir milliyetçi hareket gösterisi olmuştur. Sookmyung ilk 11 ve 26 yaş arasında beş genç kadınlar için kapılarını açtı. Otuz iki yıl sonra, ulus Dünya Savaşı karışmak üzreydi. Eğitimciler buna rağmen gerekli fedakarlığı sağlamışlardır. 1938 yılında Sookmyung Kadın Okulu temeli için ülke çapında bir kampanya açıldı. Canlı, hem de önceden mevcut sembol işareti gibi bir kar puluna dayanmaktadır ve modern olan yeni Sookmyung sembolü öğrencilerin 'ileri sıçrama'sına dayanmaktadır eğitim alanında.
Sookmyung öğrencilerin seçkin akademik faaliyetlerinde akılcı rengi temsil eden mavi kullanılmıştır.
Sookmyung, öğrencilerin dinamik enerji ve geleceğe doğru küreselleşmiş tutumlarını belirten merkezini çevreleyen maviyi vurguladı.

Realizing the imperative need for a learning institution for women created by the Korean people themselves, the Royal Family of King Go-Jong of the Joseon Dynasty founded Sookmyung on the vast grounds of Yong-Dong Palace in 1906. The fact that the very first Korean principal was appointed to this innovative institution under Japanese colonization holds important historical meanings in itself. To furnish the necessary fund to establish the school, the Royal Family bestowed Kyung-Sun Palace, and the son of King Go-Jong, Young Chin, granted the harvest coming from 6 districts (including Shin-chun, Eun-Yul, Wan-Do) from 3 Provinces (Hwang-Hae, South Cholla, and Kyunggi), so began the pioneering effort to erect a truly nationalistic learning ground for women without any external help. Sookmyung first opened its doors to five young women between the age of 11 and 26. Thirty-two years later, the nation was about to be embroiled in World War II. The intellectuals of the time who yearned for independence and the sovereignty of the people, recognized the paramount need to endow women with opportunities for learning. This recognition led to a nationwide fund-raising campaign for the foundation of Sookmyung Women's School in 1938. The predecessor of Sookmyung Women's University, Sookmyung Women's School, therefore opened a new chapter in the educational history of the nation, with a rich and unique legacy created by the Korean people and the last Royal Family.

Symbol

The Sookmyung Women's University symbol mark is one of the essential components of the visual structure representing our U.I.S.(University Identification Standards). The new Sookmyung symbol mark, which is based on a snow flake as well as the pre-existing symbol mark, vividly and modernly signifies Sookmyung students' leap forward. Blue, the color of intellect, stands for the expertise of Sookmyung students' outstanding academic activities. Our symbol mark consists of two tones: the blue in the center of the symbol mark emphasizing the diversity and dynamic energy of Sookmyung students and the blue surrounding the center indicating our globalized students' attitudes toward the future.

Trade Character

Snowflake, Sookmyung Women's University trade character, is the core component of all visual communication methods of Sookmyung Women's University. The Snowflake symbolizes the pride and challenge of Sookmyung students through its beautiful form of silent snowing. It is also coherent with our silver-white logo so that it effectively conveys a unified image of Sookmyung Women's University. No acceptable variations are allowed without authorization. The character must be used according to this rule requiring no redrawing or repainting.
