Goryeo krallığının gelişmesiyle çok katlı çokken pagodalar, önceki kare şeklinde olan pagodalara olan rağbeti azaltmış ve ülkenin kuzey kesiminde yaygınlaşarak öne çıkmıştır.

Bu pagoda Goryeo'da ki çok katlı ve çokken pagodaların ilkidir.

Odae Dağı yamacındaki Woljeong Tapınağı'nda bulunan pagoda Budist rahip Jajangyulsa tarafından kurulmuştur.

Pagodanın ön tarafında hayran bir şekilde oturmuş Bodhisattva heykeli bulunmaktadır. Dokuz katlı olan pagoda iki katlı bir temel üzerinde durmaktadır.

Alt temeli üzerine kapı şeklinde dekarosyonlar oyulmuştur.

Büyük yassı şeklindeki taşlar her bir katın üzerine konulmuştur.

Gövdeleri aşağıdan yukarı doğru bayağı kısa olan diğer çoğu pagodanın aksine bu pagodanın her bir yapısı 2. kattan itibaren neredeyse aynı uzunluğa sahiptir.

Sekizgen çatı taşlarında saçak kirişleri olmadan sade bir şekilde yerleştirilmiştir.

Rüzgar çanları hafif kalkık şekildeki saçak köşelerinde asılı durmaktadır.

Pagodanın tamamı iki kısımdan oluşmaktadır.

Alt tarafı taştan olan pagodanın, üst tarafına eklenen yaldızlı bronz kısmı ayrı bir güzellik katmıştır. Görüntüsü ile pagoda Goryeo Budist sanatının tüm görkemli ihtişamını temsil etmektedir.

Bunun yanı sıra bronz rüzgar çanı ve yaldızlı bronz kısmı dönemin metal yapımı hakkında daha fazla fikir vermektedir.

National Treasures 48‏

With the advent of Goryeo, multi-storied polygonal pagodas came to prevail in the northern part of the nation, a departure from the previous square pagodas.

This pagoda is representative of such new pagodas of early Goryeo.

The pagoda is located at Woljeongsa Temple, which was founded by Buddhist monk Jajangyulsa at the foot of Mt. Odaesan.

In front of the pagoda is an image of seated Bodhisattva in adoration. The nine-story body, with the final on its top, stands on a two-tier foundation.

A panel decoration is carved on the lower foundation.

A stone slab is installed on the top of each foundation.

Unlike most other pagodas whose bodies grow notably shorter from the bottom upward, each body of this pagoda maintains almost the same height from the second story.

The octagonal roof stones are simply trimmed without stepped cornices.

Wind-bells are hanging from the corners of the slightly upturned eaves.

The final, in complete condition, comprises two portions.

The gilt bronze upper portion and stone lower portion add to the pagoda's beauty. Overall proportions and outstanding sculpturing make the pagoda a representative example of the aristocratic splendor of the Buddhist art of Goryeo.

In addition, bronze wind-bells and the gilt bronze final provide much insight into the excellent metalwork of the period.
