Namdojinseong Kalesi, Goryeo'nun Kral Wonjong (1259-1274) döneminde gerçekleşen Moğol saldırılarına karşı Sambyeolcho'nun kıyı alanını korumak için inşa edilmiştir. Sambyeolcho, Jeju-do'nun sol bölgesinden geçtiği söylenir. Baekje döneminde Jindo'nun da içinde bulunduğu 3 köy vardı ve muhtemelen bu alan Baekje döneminden itibaren Goryeo Hanedanlığı'nda da köylerin merkezi olarak kabul edilmiştir. Bu verilere bakılırsa, bu kale Üç Krallık Döneminde inşa edilmiş olabilir. 13.yy'da Kral Chungjeong'un 2.döneminde (1350) Jindo, Japon korsanlar tarafından yağmalandı ve bunun sonucunda hükümet sorumluluları ve vatandaşlar başka şehirlere kaçmıştır. Büyük Kral Sejong hükümdarlığı erken dönemde Jindo'ya geri dönmüştür. Sonucunda askeri ittifak sağlanmış ve kıyılar arası Manhobu anlaşması imzalanmıştır. 20 yy'da da Kral Sejong hükümdarlığında kale inşa edilmiştir. Bugünkü kale ise o yıllardan sonra inşa edilmiş olması muhtemeldir. 400 metre kıyı çevresi olmasına rağmen Namdojinseong kalesi kıyı alanlarını korumak için önemli bir yer olarak kabul edildi. Oldukça iyi korunan doğu, batı ve güney kapılarının ana yeri olduğundan pek çok değerli eserlere sahiptir.

Description
Namdojinseong Fortress was built to protect the coastal area when Sambyeolcho fought against the Mongolians during the reign of King Wonjong (1259-1274) of Goryeo. Sambyeolcho, who is said to have left for Jeju-do, passed this area. There had probably been three villages already in Jindo during the Baekje Period, and this place was likely the center of one of them, from Baekje to the Goryeo Dynasty. Judging from such facts, the fortress may have already been erected since the Three Kingdoms Period. Government offices and people in Jindo escaped to the other town in the 2nd year of the reign of King Chungjeong (1350) of Goryeo because the Japanese pirates pillaged the town in the 13th century. They came back to Jindo in the early years of the reign of the Great King Sejong. Finally, Manhobu, the military alliance usually established along the coast, formed here and erected the fortress in the 20th year of the reign of King Sejong. The present fortress is likely to have been built after that. Although it had circumference of 400 meters, Namdojinseong Fortress was considered an important location for protecting the coastal area. It had many valuable relics since it was the major site of the east, west, and south gates, which had been well-preserved.
