24 Subat 1961 --
Güney Kore ile Filipinler ticaret anlasmasi imzalamistir.

24 Subat 2007 -- Güney Kore ve A.B.D., Seoul'ün 17 Nisan 2012'den baslayarak kuvvetlerinin savas zamani harekat kontrolünü Washington'dan geri alacagini duyurdu. Anlasmayla, Amerikan askerlerinin Kuzey Kore'nin saldirisina karsi Güney Kore ile birlikte savastigi 1950-1953 Kore Savasi'na dayanan iki ülkenin askeri ortakligini yeniden tanimlamasi adina en tartismali ikili sorunlardan biri karara baglanmis oldu.

February 24, 1961 -- South Korea and the Philippines sign a trade accord.

February 24, 2007 -- South Korea and the United States announce that Seoul will reclaim wartime operational control of its forces from Washington as of April 17, 2012. The agreement resolved one of the most controversial bilateral issues as the two countries continue to redefine a military alliance that dates back to the 1950-1953 Korean War, when American soldiers fought with South Korea against North Korea's invasion.

1980 -- The South Korean government decides to boycott the Moscow Olympics, following the United States, West Germany, Japan and Canada.

Denouncing the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan in December 1979, then U.S. President Jimmy Carter announced that the U.S. would boycott the 1980 Summer Games in the Soviet capital. Sixty-five countries that demanded an immediate withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan said they would not participate in the global sporting event.

February 23

1904 -- The Korea-Japan Protocol is signed. The agreement imposed by Japan states that the Korean government accepted Japanese recommendations on modernization of its facilities and would provide strategic bases for Japanese troops if a third country invaded Korea. On the pretext of protection from other countries, Japan geared up its efforts for colonization of Korea. The country fell under Japanese rule in 1910 and regained sovereignty in 1945 following the defeat of Japan in World War II.


1960 -- South Korea establishes diplomatic relations with Malaysia.


2006 -- North Korea agrees to help confirm fate of South Koreans missing during and after the 1950-53 Korean War. The agreement comes at the end of three-day talks between the two countries' Red Cross officials.

1948 -- The United Nations decides to conduct general elections in what is now South Korea, giving up on plans to establish a single Korean government after a Soviet-backed regime took control in the northern part of the peninsula.


1982 -- The U.S. Air Force announces the deployment of 10 A-10 close support aircraft to South Korea.


1995 -- Nine-year-old South Korean Kim Young-sik becomes the youngest person in the world to reach the summit of Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro.


2008 -- The New York Philharmonic performs in Pyongyang, North Korea's capital.
