Jo Byeongse (1827~1905), a late Joseon Dynasty civilian officer who sacrificed himself for the nation, served as the king’s special investigator, inspector general, home minister, vice-premier and vice-chief of royal court services after passing the civil servant examination in 1859 (10th year of King Cheoljong’s reign). After his propositions were turned down, Jo wrote wills for the king and many ambassadors and killed himself.
