Heonjongu, Joseon Hanedanligi’nin 24. Kral’idir. Kral Sunjo'nun (Yi San’in oglu) erkek torunudur. Annesi Pungyang Jo boyundan Kraliçe Sinjeong’dur. Sekiz yasinda iken tahta çikmistir. Çocuk yasinda olmasi sebebiyle tahta güç elde edememistir. Krallik büyükkanesi Kraliçe Sunwon’un ailesi Andong Kims’lerin ellerine kalmistir. 1840 da ise güç 1839 yilinda çikan anti-Katolik Gihae olaylarini takiben annesinin ailesine geçmistir. Kral Heonjong, 1849 yilinda ardindan bir veliaht birakamadan ölmüstür. Gyeongneung da ki kabire gömülmüstür.

Joseon Hanedanligi tarihinde alisalagelmis oldugu sekilde, Kral Heonjong’un hükümdarlik dönemi bilgileri ölümünden sonra 1851 yilinda derlenmistir. Derlemeler 16 kronolojik ciltten olusmaktadir. Jo In-yeong tarafindan koruma altina alinmistir

Heonjong of Joseon (1827-1849, r. 1834-1849) was the twenty-fourth king of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea. He was the grandson of Sunjo, and his mother was Queen Sinjeong of the Pungyang Jo clan. At the age of eight, he rose to the throne, but not to power. The kingdom remained in the hands of the Andong Kims, the family of his grandmother Queen Sunwon. In 1840, power passed to his mother's family, following the anti-Catholic Gihae persecution of 1839.

Heonjong died in 1849 without an heir. He was buried at the Gyeongneung tomb.

As was customary with the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, the chronicle of Heonjong's reign was compiled after his death, in 1851. The compilation of the 16-volume chronicle was supervised by Jo In-yeong.
