Hankumdo resmi olarak ilk 1996'da tanıtıldı. Sistemi kılıç tekniklerinin Korece yazım sisteminin ilkelerine göre öğretildiği bir konu kurarak,
Myung Jae-nam hangul kullanarak eşsiz bir Korece kılıç sanatını yaratmayı başardı. Hankumdo'nun amacı hangul öğrenmek ya da havada mektup yazmak değil.
Harfler öğrencinin, grevler, bıçaklama çizgileri, bloklar, vb. Gibi farklı kılıç tekniklerini kolayca hatırlayabileceği ve onları akan kombinasyonlarda uygulayabileceği bir araç olarak hareket ettirmektir.


Hangul

Hankumdo'nun Anlamı

Teknikler

Bu mektupları kılıcıyla en basit şekilde "yazmak" için, yalnızca birkaç tekniği bilmeniz gerekir.
1. Nae Ryeo Bae Gi (내려베기) - Vertical strike
2. Bi't Kyeo Bae Gi (빗겨베기) - Diagonal strike, down.
3. Ch'i Ru Gi (찌르기) - Forward stab
4. Mak Gi (막기) - High block

Gelişme

Hankumdo was first officially introduced in 1996. By setting up the system in a matter where the sword techniques are taught according to the principles of the Korean writing system hangul Myung Jae-nam managed to create a unique Korean sword art. hankumdoThe goal of hankumdo isn’t to learn to learn hangul or to write letters in the air. The letters act as a tool by which the student can easily remember the different sword techniques like strikes, stabs, blocks, etc. and practice them in flowing combinations.

Hangul
Nothing is more Korean than their writing system. It was developed by the fourth king of the Joseon dynasty, king Sejong the great. Before the creation of hangul only members of the higher classes that could educate themselves in Chinese characters could read and write. The explicit goal for creating hangul was to enable Koreans from all classes to read and write. This had a profound effect on Korean history and culture.

Hangul consists of 24 letters, 14 consonants and 10 vowels. These letters are combined in blocks that form syllables. The rules were explained in a document called Hunminjeongeum (The Proper Sounds for the Instruction of the People). It was published in 1446.

Meaning
The word hankumdo actually consists of three different words:
Han (한 / 韓): Korea, Korean culture and mentality (see Names of Korea).
Kum (검 / 劍): Sword
Do (도 / 道): The way
So you could say that hankumdo means: The way for Korean people to learn how to handle the sword. Of course hankumdo isn't just for Koreans, foreigners all over the world practice this martial art.

Techniques



When first learning hankumdo, students start out without a sword. Everything is done empty handed, maen son. Soon the student can switch to a wooden practice sword, mok geom. The student learns the basic strikes, cuts, stabs and blocks together with proper etiquette, stepping, drawing of the sword and resheating of the sword.
When advanced enough the student can switch to an aluminium practice sword, ga geom. Practice with a real sword, jin geom, isn’t allowed until much later.
To 'write' these letters with your sword in the most basic manner, you only need to know a few techniques.
1. Nae Ryeo Bae Gi (내려베기) - Vertical strike
2. Bi't Kyeo Bae Gi (빗겨베기) - Diagonal strike, down.
3. Ch'i Ru Gi (찌르기) - Forward stab
4. Mak Gi (막기) - High block
The techniques have the same name as the characters followed by the word Bae Gi (베기) which means strike. So the name for the first technique is: Ki Yeok Bae Gi (기역베기), because the name for the first character (ㄱ) in the Korean alphabet is Ki Yeok (기역).

Forms
The World Hanki Martial Arts Federation teaches several sword forms. The forms will help you to improve the way you handle your sword. The forms are called ‘yesang geombeop’.


Development
After Myung Jae Nam's death in 1999, the development of hankumdo is overseen by the Jaenam Musul Won Foundation
Quite a few changes and additions to the hankumdo curriculum have been made by Ko Ju Sik (고주식), the new technical director of the federation, since then.
