Gwangju, Güney Kore'nin Gyeonggi ilinde, Seoul'un bir kenar mahallesinin güneydoğusunda bulunur. Şehir, daha Güney Jeolla ilinin eski başkenti Gwangju metropolitan şehri ile karıştırılmamalıdır. Bunwon-ri Joseon hanedanı döneminde Gwangju'da seramik üretiminde önemli bir rol aldı. Kraliyet ailesinin kullanımı için geleneksel yollarla fırınlanan ve muhteşem bir kaliteyle üretilen beyaz porselenler bugün aynı kaliteyle Çin’e ihraç edilmektedir.
Modern Tarih
1962'de, 4 kasaba dahil olmak üzere 5 ilçe değerlendirmeye dahil edilmiştir.
1973'te, ilçeler 6'ya ayrıldı ve bu parçalar Seongnam şehrinin parçaları haline geldi. 1979 yılında Gwangju, kasaba haline geldi. Aslında, Gwangju bir ilçeydi fakat 2001 yılında şehir statüsüne yükselmiştir.

Gwangju is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, a suburb southeast of Seoul. The city is not to be confused with the much larger Gwangju Metropolitan City, former capital of South Jeolla Province, South Korea. Bunwon-ri in Gwangju took an important role of ceramic production during the Joseon dynasty. There had official kilns and produced superb quality of white porcelains for use at the royal court and to export to China.
Modern History
In 1962, 4 myuns(towns) including 5 ris(townships) were incorporated to Seoul.
In 1973, 6 of ris were separated and these came to parts of Seongnam city. In 1979, gwangju myun promoted eup. In fact, Gwangju was a county but was raised to the status of a city in 2001.
