Broken Valentine, 2002 yılında "6. August" adı altında oluşturulmuştur. 2004 yılında kendilerine "B. August" adını vermişler ve son olarak adları 2007 yılında "Broken Valentine" olarak kararlaştırılmıştır. Broken Valentine adı hakkında eski bir röportaj açıklandı.

İnsanların zihninde belli bir görüntü var, sevgililer günü güzel ve hoş olarak görülüyor, biz bir sıfat eklemek istedik, hayallerin ve fantazilerin her zaman kırılabileceği anlamına gelmesi için "Broken" koyduk. Ancak biz bir gerçeğe inanıyoruz içinde yaşadıklarımız hiç de olumsuz ya da kötümser değil. Biz insanların, bizim müzik hayatımızın içinde yaşamasını bu şekilde ifade etmek istedik.

Grup üyeleri zorunlu askerlik hizmeti için devre dışı kalmış ve üyelikte yıllar boyu dalgalanmalar yaşandı, ancak 2007 mevcut 5 üye kadroya katılmıştır.

Aralık 2008'de, sonradan birleşen grubun ''Asian Beat'' (Kore turu boyunca) grup yarışmalarındaki sponsoru YAMAHA oldu ve bir yıl sonra Hong Kong'da düzenlenen Asian Beat Grand Finalinde Kore'yi temsil edip finalist oldular. Şubat 2009'da Broken Valentine, Büyük Ödül ve En İyi Besteci Ödülü (Byun G.) ile en iyi şarkı ödülü aldı ve “Answer me” onların en popüler parçası oldu. Broken Valentine böylece gelmiş geçmiş en iyi ödülü bir yıl içerisinde iki kez kazanarak Asian Beat'in tarihindeki ilk grup olmuştur.

Broken Valentine 2009 yılında, ilk serbest albümleri EP albüm, kendi ürettiği Calling You'yu yayınladı. Bu çıkan sürümü kutlamak için grup bir konser sergiledi ve yerel konser gerçekleştirmek için devam ettiler ve Güney Kore boyunca diğer grupların desteğini aldılar. Ancak Güney Kore müzik dünyasının doğası gereği, bağımsız gruplar için çıkışlar sınırlıdır, ülke çapında tanınmayı fazla sağlamayamadı, bu yüzden 2011 yılında onlar Kore Yayın Sistemi ile Top Band televizyon programıyla dışarı açıldılar. Gruplar birbirleriyle yarışırlar Survivor benzeri bir gerçek şovdur. Kırık Sevgililer grubu gösteri de 16 tura çıktı ve bu turlarda erken favori seçildi ancak grup "Toxic" grubu tarafından bu turda elendi.

Onların elenmesinin ardından Broken Valentine, 14 Ekim 2011'de 500 kişiden fazla bir kalabalığa dördüncü özel konseri olan "Royal Straight Flush" konserini düzenledi. Şimdi 2012 yılında piyasaya sürülecek olan ilk resmi albüm üzerinde çalışmaktayız.

Broken Valentine formed in 2002 under the name "6. August", renamed themselves "B. August" in 2004 and finally settled on "Broken Valentine" in 2007. Broken Valentine once explained in an interview about its name.

People have a certain image of Valentine's day as beautiful and sweet and we add an adjective "Broken" to the word which means those illusions or fantasies can be broken anytime. But we believe that's a reality that we live in and it's not too negative or pessimistic at all. We want to express that kind of lives which people living in in our music, too.

Band membership has fluctuated throughout the years as members have gone off for mandatory military service, but by 2007, the current five member lineup was solidified.

In December 2008, the reunited band participated in the "Asian Beat" band competition (Korean round) sponsored by YAMAHA, and became the finalist to represent Korea in the following year’s Asian Beat Grand Finale held in Hong Kong. In February 2009, Broken Valentine won the Grand Prize and the Best Composer Award (Byun G) with the song “Answer me”, which became their most popular track. Broken Valentine thus became the first team in Asian Beat’s history to ever win two awards in the same year.

In 2009, Broken Valentine released their first EP album, the self-produced Calling You. To celebrate this release, the performed a showcase concert, and continued to perform at local gigs and in support of other bands throughout South Korea. However, due to the nature of the South Korean music scene, with limited outlets for independent bands, they found difficulty achieving nationwide recognition, so in 2011, they tried out for the television program Top Band broadcast by the Korean Broadcasting System. This is a Survivor-like reality show wherein bands compete against each other. Broken Valentine was considered an early favorite, and made it to the round of 16 on the show, but was eliminated at this round by the band "Toxic."

Following their elimination, Broken Valentine held their fourth exclusive concert “Royal Straight Flush” on October 14, 2011 to a crowd of more than 500 people. They are now working on their first official album to be released in 2012.
