Geçmişi

Ailee 30 Mayıs 1989'ta ABD'nin Colarada eyaletinde dünyaya geldi. Scotch Plains Lisesi'nde ve PACE Üniversitesi'nde öğrenim gördü. Arkadaşlarının ona iyi bir şarkıcı olduğunu söylemesi üzerine ünlü R&B şarkılarını yorumladığı bir Youtube kanalı açarak şarkıcılığa ilk adımını atmış oldu. 2010'da müziğe devam etmek ve köklerine daha yakın olmak için Güney Kore'ye taşındı.

Çıkış Öncesi

Ailee K-pop çıkışı öncesinde, Johnnyphlo ve Philadelphia kökenli rapçı Decipher gibi şirket içindeki sanatçılarla düet yaptığı New York ve New Jersey merkezli bağımsız bir şirket olan Muzo Entertainment altında sanatçıydı.
YMC Entertainment'taki eğitim günleri boyunca, Wheesung'un 9 Ekim 2011'da çıkan "They Are Coming" şarkısında düet yaptı. Ailee ayrıca Decipher'ın "Catch Me If You Can" isimli şarkısında da yer aldı.
13 Eylül 2011'de Wheesung ile birlikte MBC'nin Chuseok özel bölümünde performans sergilediler. Ailee'nin sahnedeki varlığı, henüz çıkış yapmamasına rağmen profesyonel bir şarkıcı gibi olmasına şaşıran seyirciler tarafından hemen fark edildi. "Halo" solo performansından sonra şarkıcı BMK şöyle bir yorum yaptı: "Nereye giderse gitsin, her zaman büyük bir yıldız olma potansiyeli taşıyacak. Kesinlikle harikulade bir sesi var." Ailee bütün bu yorumlardan sonra herkes tarafından birinci sıraya yükseltildi.
30 Ocak 2012'de KBS Dream High Season 2'de dizi icabı K-pop grubu HershE'nin bir üyesi olarak oyuncu olarak çıkışını yaptı.

Çıkış: 2012

6 Şubat'ta Ailee'nin çıkış şarkısı Heaven'nın müzik video tanıtımı yayınlandı. Heavan şarkısının prodüktörlüğü ve sözü Wheesung'a aittir. 9 Şubat'ta, Ailee, Beast'den Gi Kwang'ın yer aldığı şarkısını ve müzik videosunu çıkardı. Sonraki gün Heaven performansıyla M.net M! Countdown programında sahnede çıkışı gerçekleştirdi ve Şubat 11'de SBS Inkigayo ile devam etti. Çıkışından sadece bir ay sonra Cyworld Müzik Ödülleri'de aday gösterildi. "Ayın Şarkısı" ve "Ayın Çaylağı" ödüllerini kazandı.

Background

Ailee was born in Denver, Colorado on May 30, 1989, but grew up in New Jersey. She studied at Scotch Plains Fanwood High School and Pace University where she studied criminal justice, but had to take a leave to pursue her music career. She first got into singing by creating a YouTube channel called "aileemusic" of her covering famous R&B songs because her friends had told her she was a good singer. She moved to South Korea to pursue music and be closer to her roots in 2010.

Pre-debut

Before her K-pop debut, Ailee was an artist under Muzo Entertainment, an independent agency based out of New York and New Jersey, where she collaborated with several artists under the group such as Johnnyphlo, who is also signed in Korea, as well as Philadelphia based rapper, Decipher.
During her trainee days under YMC Entertainment, she was featured in Wheesung's "They Are Coming" song released on October 9, 2011. Ailee was also featured in Decipher's song "Catch Me If You Can".
On September 13, 2011 Ailee along with Wheesung held a performance on the MBC's Chuseok special episode of "Singer and Trainee". Ailee's stage presence was immediately felt by the audience, who was amazed that she was like a professional singer, even though she had not yet officially debuted. Following her's solo performance of "Halo" by Beyoncé, singer BMK expressed, "Wherever she goes, she has the potential to be a big star. She definitely has the voice." After the judges had graded everyone, Ailee won first place.
On January 30, 2012 Ailee made her acting debut in KBS Dream High Season 2 as Ailee, one of the member of the fictional K-pop group HershE.

2012 : Debut

On February 6, the music video teaser for Ailee's debut song, Heaven, was released. Heaven was written and produced by Wheesung. On the 9th, Ailee released the song and the music video, which featured Beast's Gi Kwang. Later that day, she made her debut stage performance of "Heaven" on M.net M! Countdown, and then on SBS Inkigayo on February 11. Just one month after her debut, she dominated the Cyworld Music Awards on February where she won two awards for, “Song of the Month” and “Rookie of the Month“.
