Bupyeong, Incheon’dan farklı bir bölge olarak geliştirildi. Silla Hanedanlığı döneminde Jangjaegun diye adlandırılırken Üç Krallık döneminde Kogurya’da Jubutogun ismini almıştır. Bölge; Suju, Ahnam, Gyeyang, Gilju ve Kore Hanedanlığı boyunca bu isimlerle anıldı ve ayrıca Chosun Hanedanlığı dönemi boyunca Bupyeong olarak anılmıştır.

Bölge 1914 yılında Bucheongun Bunaemyun’a dahil edildi ve ilk kez 1940’da Incheonbu’ya dahil edildi. 1970’lerden sonra bölgeden Seo-gu ve Gyeyang-gu’nun, büyük apartman komplekslerinin inşa edilmesi ve endüstriyel kalkınma ivmesi ile gerçekleşen hızlı gelişme nedeniyle ayrılması gerekli olduğu kaydedilmiştir. 22 semte sahip olan bölgenin adı 1 Mart 1995 tarihinde Buk-gu’dan gelen Bupyeong-gu olarak değiştirilmiştir. Bupyeong-gu devlet dairesi binası 1 Ekim 1996’da bugünkü yerine taşınmıştır.

1995.1.1 – 4802 yasasıyla Incheon Metropalitan Şehir oldu.

Bupyeong is originally developed as region that was different from Incheon. It was called Jubutogun of Koguryo during the period of Three Kingdoms, while it was called Jangjaegun during the united Silla dynasty. It was referred to by names Suju, Ahnam, Gyeyang, gilju, and Bupyeong during the Korea dynasty, and it was also referred to as Bupyeong during the Chosun dynasty.

This area was included in Bucheongun Bunaemyun in 1914, and it was first included in Incheonbu in 1940. It must noted that after the 1970s, Seo-gu and Gyeyang-gu were separated due to the rapid expansion taking place from the acceleration of industrial development and construction of big apartment complexes. On March 1, 1995, its name was changed from Buk-gu to Bupyeong-gu, a district with 22 dongs. The office building of Bupyeong-gu moved to its current location on October 1, 1996.
